The decarbonisation of the energy system also leads to a rapid exit from coal and the decarbonisation of gas. Research activities in the coal sector will focus on regions in transition, in line with the principles of the Just Transition Mechanism. This will help maintain the annual research programme of at least €40 million and allow funding for major research and innovation projects in the field of clean steel production.
