Saint John Police Collective Agreement

The agreement follows a conciliation body that sides with the firefighters in its tariff dispute with the city. “We`re going back to the negotiations and frankly, when we started, we had another police chief. I am not quite sure who made the proposals on behalf of the employer. They did not present this evidence at the hearing,” Mr. Squires said. A good majority “of police union members voted in favour,” Const said. Duane Squires, the president. He declined to reveal the percentage, but said 116 of the 142 members showed up for the vote. The city`s 2018 budget of $152 million is $1.4 million lower than last year.

Police and fire budgets were cut by $1.25 million each. Saint John Mayor Don Darling, who sits on the commission, responded to the agreement by saying police were “valued personnel who help keep our city safe and healthy. They deserve our respect.┬áThe impasse leaves the policy without a contract after the last collective agreement between the two expires at the end of 2019. “We still hope that the association will be open to taking into account the position of the force leadership, so that we can get a new collective agreement that benefits the members and the community.” He adds that there has been good collaboration between their officials and police management on issues related to COVID-19 and the recent cyberattack in Saint John. It says, “You should do everything in your power to conclude an extension or revision of the agreement or a new agreement,” said Mr.
